imjustawkwards asked: What are meat substitutes I can eat after a workout? Also, I couldnt do the no protein thing so i'm a pestitarian.
for strength of any kind of resistance training whey isolate is generally a great choice for post work out snacks because it is rapidly absorbed by the muscles and therefore promotes muscle building. egg white cups are another great quick snack to have on hand. just pour egg whites into muffin cups with some veggies top with atiny bit of feta cheese back until hard and your good to go. if your in a super rush detour bars are one of the best options out of the pre packaged protein bars. however i usually only use these when im mad busy because i try to limit processed foods. (look for a bar with 160-200 calories and les than 6 grams of sugar)
cardio? your main goal is to replace your depleted glycogen stores so go with a protein packed grain like quinoa or buckwheat. with the quoina try a shrimp jumbalya ( i assume you eat seafood), and with the buckwheat try making it into pancakes.
oh yeah on the dairy side of things greek yogurt is a vegatarians best friend. mix some plain non fat stuff with fruit. 3/4 of a cup has 18 grams of protein! (sometimes after a tough practice il put some full fat riccota in there with some blueberries. my fav post work out snack).
another quick snack my team trainer came up with is a whole wheat wrap with a banana in it a smear of nutella, a smear or peanut butter and roll it up and take it with you to your work out.
an ideal ratio for a recovery snack is 3:1 carbohydrates to protein so go ahead and create your own!
